Yesterday marked the release of Arbaaz Khan’s directorial debut Dabangg 2, featuring Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. A sequel to 2010’s blockbuster Dabangg, the film had enormous expectations attached to it. It took a flying start and earned Rs 20 crore, all-India, on its first day. Setting a record for being the biggest non-holiday opener, Dabangg 2 has maintained its impressive numbers on its second day as well.
In Mumbai, Rajesh Thandani of Multimedia Combines says, “Dabangg 2 has created a gigantic wave and everyone loves the film. On day one, it earned Rs 7-7.5 crore in Mumbai and Rs 19.5-20 crore, all-India. Although there is a slight drop in Saturday morning’s shows, the evening and night shows will make up for it.”
In Delhi-UP, Brijesh Tandon of H K Tandon and Company adds, “In the Delhi-UP circuit, Dabangg 2 has earned Rs 3.4 crore. The movie is also doing well across territories and has been appreciated by everyone. The music is very nice and, being a Salman Khan film, it is certain to be a blockbuster.”
In East Punjab, Jaspal Dhingra of Nanaskar Enterprises adds, “On day one, the film earned Rs 1.5 crore in East Punjab and footfalls increased with the evening shows. The craze for ‘Bhai’ is increasing every day, and from kids to the elderly, everyone wants to watch his films as they are wholesome masala entertainers.”
In West Bengal, Debashish Dey of Aum Moviez says, “On its first day, Dabangg 2 garnered around Rs 1 crore. I expect the movie to do even better today as it is a weekend. The film is massy with a classy touch. The reports are very good and almost every show is house full. This morning, shows opened to 70-per cent occupancy and the evening along and night shows are already sold out.”
In Rajasthan, Gaurav Gaur from O’Real Imaginations says, “Salman Khan is a brand, so his fans want to watch every single film he makes. Some of them feel they must watch the first day, first show itself. Yesterday, almost all the shows were 80-per cent booked. On day one, Dabangg 2 earned Rs 1.21 crore in Rajasthan. We have huge expectations from this film.”
